A hundred pounds of help. But does this Budget actually leave you better off? Here are three things to understand. First, what you get. A £100 energy payment is planned for households in England in council tax bands A to D, from January 2027. It’s one payment, not £100 every month. Second, what you might pay. From April 2027, tax rates on savings interest and property income rise by two percentage points. For every £1,000 of savings interest that’s taxable, that means £20 more tax. That’s interest, not your savings balance. Tax-free allowances still matter. Third, timing. The help with electricity VAT is temporary. It ends on the first of July 2027. And who gains overall? Treasury modelling puts the lowest-income group about £75 a year up, and the highest about £105 down in 2027 to 2028. Those averages include public services, not just cash in your pocket. They aren’t a promise about your household. Check what applies to you, when it changes, and what is still a forecast. Find the Budget without the jargon at www.uk-statpack.co.uk.
